Fahari Academy Charter School first opened its doors in August of 2009 to serve Brooklyn’s East Flatbush community. We are a public charter school, tuition free and with open enrollment determined by a lottery. We are a school that promises all children an excellent education that equips and empowers them to be successful in life and ready for college. Currently, Fahari Academy serves students in grades 5 through 8, with plans to grow through the 12th grade, educating more than 800 students.
Fahari is from the Swahili word meaning pride. P.R.I.D.E encompasses the culture of our academy and defines our core values – Preparedness, Respect, Inquisitiveness, Determination and Excellence. Here at Fahari Academy, our students adhere to a standard of academic excellence and P.R.I.D.E. They take pleasure in working hard to exceed expectations and working to be an exemplary community member of their community.
The Fahari Mission
The mission of Fahari Academy Charter School is to educate, support, challenge, and train scholars, in Brooklyn’s Flatbush neighborhood, for success in college and beyond.
Fahari’s School Logo is a shield. Within the shield there is a lion with a crown. This crown and lion are in homage to the continent of Africa. Fahari means PRIDE in Swahili.
The Fahari Lions is not only the name of our Championship Basketball team but Fahari’s school mascot. The lion is a symbol of strength, wisdom and courage. We encourage our students to R.O.A.R. in every situation:
